This stone cross dates from the year 1879 and depicts the Unnailing, the moment when Jesus of Nazareth is taken down from the cross, with the help of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, while his mother Mary is kneeling down.
Beside it is a “peto de ánimas” (a stone structure used to collect alms for the souls in purgatory). It is a good example of the local stonemasons’ skill; the ensemble is located in the village of Eiroa, parish of Santa Cristina de Barro.
