Beach Route on the way to the Barbanza

From north to south, exiting the municipality of Noia, the first stop on the route is Aguieira Beach. This beach features calm water and numerous dunes of white sand, which make up a natural beauty spot. It is an ideal place for lovers of sports such as windsurf and kitesurf. At the westernmost point, there are the mouths of the Cans and Quintáns Rivers and a small islet featuring an old fish-salting factory, which has now been turned into a private home.

The beach called Area Longa, which you can reach by means of a trail through the forest, is a nudist beach in the municipality of Porto do Son. If you decide to go down to the beach, you will be able to enjoy an unspoilt beauty spot featuring incredible views of Castro de Baroña, an Iron Age settlement located on a small rocky peninsula. Do not miss visiting this wonderful beach.

This beach is perfect for nature lovers. Almost a kilometre of beach made up of rocks and sand. There, river and sea combine to form a natural beauty spot for everyone; for those who prefer the rough sea and those who prefer the calm water of the river mouth. However, be careful! The depth of the river varies with the tide, so if you do not keep track of time, you might have to leave the beach carrying your belongings above your head.

As Furnas is an unspoilt beach. It stands out due to the numerous channels and natural pools that have gradually been sculpted by wind erosion and the rough sea. It is famous as the beach where Ramón Sampedro had the fateful accident that left him paralysed –his story is featured in the film starring Javier Bardem, “The Sea Inside.” Moreover, this beach will be familiar to followers of the TV series “Fariña,” since this was where the argument between Sito and Terito was filmed.

This short route for sea lovers ends at Corrubedo Lighthouse. It dates from 1853 and is the westernmost point of the Barbanza Peninsula. This area is characterised by rough seas and numerous shipwrecks, which is due, among other reasons, to mistaking this lighthouse for that of Sálvora, as was the case in the well-known accident involving the Santa Isabel ocean liner. Corrubedo Lighthouse has now been turned into a four-star hotel.
